Lalitha Sangeetham
Lalitha Sangeetha, which originated in the 18th and 19th centuries and continues today, is a less serious form of classical music. It was at its peak in the mid-twentieth century. The style is characterised by through-composed orchestral pieces and suites that are intended to appeal to a broader context and audience than more sophisticated forms such as the concerto, symphony, and opera. Lalitha Sangeetham was especially popular during the early days of radio, with stations like the BBC Light Programme playing almost entirely "light" compositions. Light music is often grouped with the easy listening genre and is also known as mood music and concert music. In India Lalitha Sangeetham is popular, and many of the genre's compositions have become well-known due to their use as themes in films, radio and more.
