Plant Biotechnology

Plant biotechnology deals mainly deals with developing insect resistant crops like Bt cotton, corn, tomatoes and so on. It also helps in the production of germ plasm which eventually increases the yield and quality of the variety. Biotechnology is the area of research and study of living organisms and their products. It has significant use in our day to day life. Animals like pigs, rats, monkeys, cows are used as genetically engineered animals for their use in agriculture or pharmaceuticals. Red biotechnology is the field of developing pharmaceuticals including vaccines. Green biotechnology is used for the research in agricultural products. Biotechnology gave rise to use of microorganisms in milk and milk products. Bioweapons, which are used to cause diseases and toxins are also included in this field. By using plant biotechnology, a plant can increase its tolerance to environmental disturbances like salinity or drought.
