Medical Mycology

Presentations | English

Any idea about Medical Mycology? Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy, and their use to humans as a source for tinder, traditional medicine, food, and entheogens, as well as their dangers, such as toxicity or infection. The discipline of medical mycology has become increasingly relevant in the face of the rising incidence of invasive fungal infections (IFI), which pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for contemporary medical appliances. Heinrich Anton de Bary was a German surgeon, botanist, microbiologist, and mycologist. He is considered a founding father of plant pathology (phytopathology) as well as the founder of modern mycology and physiology). Mycological research has led to the development of such antibiotic drugs like penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline, as well as other drugs, including statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs). Mycology also has important applications in the dairy, wine, and baking industries and the production of dyes and inks. Medical mycology is the study of fungus organisms that cause disease in humans.
