The diverse geography of the state means that every few 100 kilometres the topography changes quite drastically; introducing us to a different climate and flora and fauna too. This also means that the eating habits changes too. Malenadu is a region that covers parts of the Western ghats. Uttara Kannada, Chikmagalur, Shivamogga, Hassan and parts of Belgaum come under this belt. The cuisine is inspired by the local vegetables and spices and have a distinct flavour. The cuisine covers wide range that satisfies both vegetarians and meat lovers. Here is a quick glimpse of some of the popular dishes.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮಲೆನಾಡು ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟದ ಮಡಿಲಿನಲ್ಲರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ನೀರು, ನೆಲದ ಸೊಗಡು, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಹವೆ - ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಊಟ ತಿಂಡಿಯ ಮೇಲು ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ, ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ, ಹಾಸನ ಹಾಗು ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಊಟ ತಿಂಡಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟತೆ ಇದ್ದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಜೀವನ ಶೈಲಿಗೆ ಸರಿಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಡುಗೆ ಸಸ್ಯಾಹಾರಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಮಾಂಸಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೂ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ತಿನಿಸುಗಳ ತುಣುಕು ನೋಡಿ.
