Presentations | English

"What is the significance of elections in a democracy? Why is it important for citizens to vote in elections? What is the election process of India? Why do we need regular elections? The nature of democracy is that elected officials are accountable to the people, and they must return to the voters at prescribed intervals to seek their mandate to continue in office. For that reason most democratic constitutions provide that elections are held at fixed regular intervals, right? Members of Lok Sabha or the lower house of India's Parliament are elected by being voted upon by all adult citizens of India, from a set of candidates who stand in their respective constituencies. Every adult citizen of India can vote only in their constituency. Who conducts the election in India? The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering Union and State election processes in India. Don’t you think that the elections are essential for any country? Don’t you think that elections facilitate and gives people the power? Let’s learn more about elections, shall we?"
