Among the first things that one recalls on hearing of the city of Amaravathi in Guntur District is the famous ancient Amaravathi Stupa. What’s less known is this world renowned stupa remained hidden from the eye and people’s memory for many centuries till it was excavated in the early 1800s. What’s lesser known is that this excavation was an act of chance. The stupa was unearthed when a zamindar by the name of Vasireddy Nayudu was forced to leave his ancestral home and build a new palace for himself, in a new land. More on this interesting event in history and the man himself is brought to you in this presentation.
గుంటూరు జిల్లాలోని అమరావతి అనగానే గుర్తుకువచ్చేది బౌద్ధ మతానికి చెందిన అక్కడి పురాతన అమరావతి స్తూపము. అయితే, ఈ స్తూపము చాలా శతాబ్దాలుగా ఆచూకీ లేకుండా ఉండేదని, 1800 ప్రాంతాలలో తవ్వకాలలో బయటపడిందని చాలామందికి తెలియదు. ఇంకొక విషయం ఏమిటంటే ఈ తవ్వకం వాసిరెడ్డి నాయుడు అనే ఒక జమీందారు ఆదేశాలపై నూతన భావన నిర్మాణము చేస్తుండగా జరిగింది. జమిందారు వాసిరెడ్డి నాయుడు గురించి, ఆయన తన స్వంత జమిందారీ విడిచిపెట్టి నూతన ప్రదేశంలో నూతన భవనము ఎందుకు కట్టించాల్సి వచ్చిందో, అమరావతి స్తూపము ఎలా బయట పడిందో ఈ ప్రదర్శనలో తెలియజేయడం జరిగింది. ఈ ఆసక్తికరమైన ప్రదర్శనను చదివి ఆనందించగలరు.
