"The entire Surah speaks of the Prophet Yusuf, hence the name of the chapter ‘Yusuf’. It consists of a total of 111 verses (ayah) divided into 12 Rukus or Sections. This Surah was revealed in Mecca during the time of Muhammad’s Prophethood, towards the concluding time. It is during this time that the intense act of persecution began and the Meccans planned to kill or Exile Muhammad. Yusuf is one of the sons of Ya'qub or (Jacob). It is believed that the Surah of Yusuf was revealed as an answer to the question put forth by Meccans to the Prophet Muhammad regarding Prophet Yusuf and the main reasoning behind the act of Israelites arriving in Egypt as a test to make him embarrassed.
