Every year on May 8, the World Red Cross Day commemorates the Red Crescent Movement's and the International Red Cross's beliefs. The day also serves as a thank you to the volunteers who are always willing to assist those in need. In the aftermath of World War I, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) was founded in Paris in 1919. Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and the United States were the five founding members. The number of recognised National Societies has grown over time, and there are now 190 of them.
