Weather forecasts are created by gathering as much information as possible about the current state of the atmosphere (particularly temperature, humidity, and wind) and using meteorology to predict how the atmosphere will evolve in the future. They start with the analysis and use their knowledge of physics and fluid dynamics to advance the state of the atmosphere forward in time. Supercomputers are needed to solve the complicated equations that govern how the state of a fluid changes over time.
