Water in the Atmosphere

Presentations | English

Because it acts as a solvent, liquid water is a fundamental need for life on Earth. It has the ability to dissolve molecules and facilitate important chemical processes in animal, plant, and microbial cells. There are five states of matter that can be found in the atmosphere: solid, liquid, gas, plasma and Bose-Einstein Condensate. Water is a substance that can easily move from one state of matter to another and this ability is important. Water at normal Earth temperatures, is a liquid. When the temperature rises water evaporates into water vapour. Importance of water vapour in the atmosphere is that it helps in the process of water cycle. When water vapour goes up, it mixes with dust particles and other gases to form clouds. When the clouds become heavier, then water vapours again fall down to earth surface in the form of rain. Thus, the movement of water causes for all types of weather in the atmosphere. we can't think of our planet without moisture on its surface and with the change of air temperature, the capacity to retain moisture increases or decreases.
