Abdul Khader Moulavi, also known as Vakkom Moulavi, was a towering figure in social reform, journalism, religious thought, and literature. In 1873, he was born in the village of Vakkom, near Chirayinkeezhu. In 1905, he began his writing career with the Malayalam periodical Swadeshabhimani, in which he wanted to awaken the people of Kerala all over. Moulavi began the campaign for the rights of the people of the land with his editor, Sri Ramakrishna Pillai. When the journal's publishing was halted due to the seizure of Swadeshabhimani Press and the exile of the editor, he continued his work through other publications and books. He sacrificied his entire wealth in the process. Moulavi has made significant efforts to build Muslim unity. He was a driving force behind the founding of the Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Muslim Samajam and the Travancore Muslim Maha Jana Sabha. Several Madrassas and schools were also founded under his direction.
