Uthara madhura veedhikale is a song from the movie Karuna. K. Thankappan directed and produced the film in Malayalam in 1966. Devika Madhu, Adoor Bhasi, Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, and Sankaradi play the key roles in the film. G. Devarajan composed the film's soundtrack. The music was composed by G. Devarajan and the lyrics were written by O. N. V. Kurup. KJ Yesudas performed this song. Ottaplakkal Neelakandan Velu Kurup (also known as O. N. V. Kurup) was a Malayalam poet and lyricist from Kerala, India, who was awarded the Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour, in 2007. In 1998, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour, and in 2011, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Kerala.
കരുണ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു ഗാനമാണ് "ഉത്തര മധുര വീഥികളേ". കെ.തങ്കപ്പൻ 1966-ൽ മലയാളത്തിൽ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുകയും നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത ചിത്രമാണിത്. ദേവിക മധു, അടൂർ ഭാസി, തിക്കുറിശ്ശി സുകുമാരൻ നായർ, ശങ്കരാടി എന്നിവരാണ് പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ജി.ദേവരാജനാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദരേഖ ഒരുക്കിയത്. ഒ.എൻ.വി.കുറുപ്പിന്റെ വരികൾക്ക് ജി.ദേവരാജൻ സംഗീതം പകർന്നു. കെ ജെ യേശുദാസ് ഈ ഗാനം ആലപിച്ചു. ഒറ്റപ്ലാക്കൽ നീലകണ്ഠൻ വേലു കുറുപ്പ് (ഒ.എൻ.വി കുറുപ്പ് എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു) ഇന്ത്യയിലെ കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു മലയാള കവിയും ഗാനരചയിതാവുമാണ്, 2007-ൽ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ പരമോന്നത സാഹിത്യ ബഹുമതിയായ ജ്ഞാനപീഠ പുരസ്കാരം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചു. സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയും, 2011-ൽ, ഇന്ത്യയിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഉയർന്ന സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയായ പത്മവിഭൂഷൺ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചു. കേരള സർവകലാശാലയിൽ നിന്ന് ഓണററി ഡോക്ടറേറ്റ് ലഭിച്ചു.
