Uses and Implications of Psychological Testing

Presentations | English

Didn't you know about the concept of Psychological testing? A psychological test provides a measure of characteristics and abilities in individuals including aptitude and intelligence. Psychological tests have several important qualities that distinguish them from other tests or questionnaires. The goals of psychological assessment are to better understand a person's strengths and weaknesses, identify potential problems with cognition, emotional reactivity, and make recommendations for treatment/remediation. Psychologists work to discover the root cause for maladaptive behaviors and may administer psychological testing to help distinguish between various diagnoses and help guide an individual to answers about what is wrong with them, and help them and their psychiatrist or psychotherapist identify priorities and a starting. Important principles of psychological measurement and assessment are covered, including standardization, norms, reliability, test development, and validation.
