The IAS/IPS Prelims exam has two papers on General studies Paper I and Paper II. Two papers will carry 200 marks with a duration of 2 hours each. The section Government and administration is discussed under the topic Indian Polity and governance. There are usually questions from this section which can be difficult as well as easy. Indian Polity and Governance section of the IAS Prelims Syllabus covers Indian Constitution, Organs of Government (Legislature, Executive and Judiciary), Constitutional Bodies and Organizations. Other important topics as given in the syllabus are “Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, Governance, Interaction of Union Government of India with the states etc. Usually questions are based on current happenings and news. Current affairs update is needed to solve these questions along with basics. In the year 2014, almost 11 questions were asked from this section.
