The UPSC permits candidates to choose from a list of 48 optional subjects. A few optional subjects have a lot of overlap with the General Studies syllabus. Preliminary, Mains, and Interview are the three stages of the IAS Exam. The UPSC Mains Exam consists of nine examinations, including two optional subject papers. Political Science and International Relations is one of the Optional Subjects offered by UPSC. In the UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination, the Political Science Optional comprises of two examinations (Paper I and Paper II). Each paper is worth 250 points, for a total of 500 points. In Indian politics, justice, equality, rights, democracy, the concept of power, theories of state, western political thinking, federalism, social movements, caste religion, and ethnicity are all discussed in Paper 1. Globalisation, non-aligned movement, collapse of the Soviet Union, evolution of the international economic system, India and the world are all topics covered in Paper 2.
