The term Ultrasonic and ultrasound are often interchangeable. They are sound waves that have a higher frequency than the human ear can hear. In other words it is the vibrations of frequencies greater than the upper limit of the audible range for humans—that is, greater than about 20 kilohertz. These sound waves are commonly used in medicine to produce an image of your body as the sound waves bounce off of body structures. An example of ultrasonic is an ultrasound image of an unborn baby. High frequency sound is sound of which the frequency lies between 8 and 20 kHz. The sound threshold rises sharply once the frequency becomes higher.
