Types of Pollution

Presentations | English

Humanity’s constant need for natural resources has slowly started to change the face of the earth. Though the quality of living has drastically improved, other new issues have risen that gradually impact human health and the environment. The addition of any substance or any form of energy to the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled or stored in some harmless form is called pollution. Globalisation and anthropogenic actions are the main contributors to pollution. There are different types of pollution which are either caused by natural events like forest fires or by man-made activities like emissions from cars, factories, nuclear wastes. There are four major types of pollution, they are: air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and noise pollution. The release of harmful contaminants like toxic gases, sewage, factory waste, chemicals and fertilizers into the earth’s atmosphere, water bodies and soil causes pollution in these natural resources. Besides these 4 types of pollution, other types exist such as light pollution, thermal pollution and radioactive pollution.
