Have you noticed the unusual silence before and after a storm? Just like our minds, isn’t it? Just before causing the havoc, Tsunami also creates this unusual silence. The greatest sign of this incoming calamity is seeing the water retreating into the ocean. If you ever see this, head for the hills. These are giant waves caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. Out in the depths of the ocean, these waves do not dramatically increase in height. But as the waves travel closer to land, they build up to higher and higher heights as the depth of the ocean decreases causing great destruction. It is more dangerous than a storm surge causing damage along the coastline. When two tectonic plates move in an earthquake, it releases incredible amounts of energy which need to go somewhere and it causes movements in the tides. The energy created by the earthquake and tremors is transferred into the waves and this is what creates the tidal waves that you see in this natural calamity.
