Thumba poovinte chundile punjiri is a song by Kalabhavan Mani from the album Athapoovu. Kerala's state celebration is called Onam. Mahabali, the mythological Asura monarch of ancient Kerala, is honoured on this day. Pookalam is a flower arrangement on the floor that is elaborate and colourful. The tradition of decorating Pookalam is immensely popular in Kerala, and it is practised as a family ritual during the ten-day Onam festival. Athapoovu are multi-tiered colourful displays of flowers, petals, and leaves that are usually circular in shape. It is forbidden to use powdered colours or artificial flowers. Pookalams are usually placed in the house's front court yard. A Pookalam's diameter is usually between four and five metres. 'Pookalam' is made up of two words: 'poov' means flower and 'kalam' implies ground colour sketching. During the Onam festival, it is considered auspicious to create Pookalam, also known as 'Aththa-Poo.'
കലാഭവൻ മണിയുടെ അത്തപ്പൂവ് എന്ന ആൽബത്തിലെ ഗാനമാണ്"തുമ്പപ്പൂവിന്റെ ചുണ്ടിലെ പുഞ്ചിരി". കേരളത്തിന്റെ സംസ്ഥാന ആഘോഷം ആണ് ഓണം. പുരാതന കേരളത്തിലെ അസുര രാജാവായ മഹാബലിയെ ഈ ദിവസം ആദരിക്കുന്നു. പൂക്കളം തറയിൽ വിശാലവും വർണ്ണാഭമായി ഒരുക്കുന്നു. പൂക്കളം അലങ്കരിക്കുന്ന പാരമ്പര്യം കേരളത്തിൽ വളരെ മുൻപെ പ്രചാരത്തിലുണ്ട്, പത്ത് ദിവസത്തെ ഓണാഘോഷത്തിൽ ഇത് ഒരു കുടുംബ ആചാരമായി അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു. സാധാരണയായി വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള പൂക്കൾ, ഇതളുകൾ, ഇലകൾ എന്നിവയുടെ ബഹുതല വർണ്ണാഭമായ പ്രദർശനങ്ങളാണ് അത്തപ്പൂവ്. പൊടിച്ച നിറങ്ങളോ കൃത്രിമ പൂക്കളോ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. വീടിന്റെ മുൻവശത്തെ മുറ്റത്താണ് സാധാരണയായി പൂക്കളങ്ങൾ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു പൂക്കളത്തിന്റെ വ്യാസം സാധാരണയായി നാല് മുതൽ അഞ്ച് മീറ്റർ വരെയാണ്. 'പൂക്കളം' എന്നത് രണ്ട് വാക്കുകൾ ചേർന്നതാണ് പൂവും കളവും. ഓണക്കാലത്ത് 'അത്തപ്പൂ' എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പൂക്കളം ഇടുന്നത് ഐശ്വര്യമായി കരുതുന്നു.
