Nestled in the Guntur District, near the town of Tadepalligudem are the Undavalli Caves. Cut into the rockface of a hill, these are four-storyed handmade caves with several idols and temples inside. When you step into these caves, you will find fine carvings of creepers, idols of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, idols of various other gods as well as rishis. Prominent among these is a 20 feet long statue of Ananthapadmanaabha Swamy. Some historians date these caves to the 4th and 5th centuries.
