The Success Story of Uber

Presentations | English

Few companies have been so successful yet so hated as Uber. Founded in 2009 by two young entrepreneurs, Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, the ride hailing company first launched in San Francisco in 2010. By 2012 the company was present in 27 locations including London and Paris. Despite opposition from taxi companies and many local authorities, Uber continued to grow. Its stance that it was not a taxi company and hence not subject to local taxi regulations won the support of the public. But that was not the case of the surge pricing model they introduced whereby fares were based on supply and demand at the time of the booking request. This resulted in fares sometimes increasing multiple times the normal levels, something which did not go well with many customers. However, despite all the criticism and controversies, the company continued to expand. By January 2022, Uber has more than 70% share in the ride-hailing business and has around 120 million monthly active users across the world. Please go through the presentation for more details.
