The Romantic Era

Presentations | English

According to many researchers, the Romantic period began in 1798 with the publication of William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge's "Lyrical Ballads." Romanticism quickly expanded throughout Europe and the United States towards the end of the 18th century and well into the 19th, challenging the existing era, Enlightenment's logical ideal. The artists of Romanticism highlighted the importance of sense and emotions in understanding and experiencing the universe, rather than just reason and order. In the never-ending pursuit for human rights and liberty, Romanticism praised the individual imagination and intuition. Its beliefs of the artist's creative and subjective capacities fuelled avant-garde movements long into the twentieth century. The individual's relationship with Nature was highlighted by many Romanticists. These writers, musicians, artists, and architects found their voices in a variety of genres, including literature, music, art, and architecture. Know more of the era and the writers in this presentation.
