There are many popular temples in the two Telugu states that are dedicated to Lord Shiva. One among them is the pilgrim centre of Keesaragutta, close to Telangana’s capital city of Hyderabad. According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared in person to Rama and Sita at this very place. He then turned himself into a ‘linga’ because Rama and Sita were asked by the rishis of the place to perform a puja to Shiva at that ordained time. One will find many smaller lingas scattered around the main temple area.
