Once the feudal lords of the Satavahanas, the Iksvakus rose to prominence and became rulers in their own might from 225 AD to 300 AD. They were speakers of the Prakrit language and they ruled over many parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Telangana. Though not much is known of their place of origin, they considered themselves to be the descendents of Lord Rama. Their capital city was Vijayapuri, current day Nalgonda. It is said that the port town of Bhattiprolu was established by one of the rulers in this dynasty. It was during their time that many of the dilapidated Buddhist Viharas in the state were reconstructed and repaired.
