Over 45 million people are directly employed by India's textile sector, making it the country's greatest source of job creation. To put it another way, India's textile industry is one of the oldest and most promising in terms of its overall GDP contribution. The textile sector in India was utterly disorganized prior to economic liberalization in 1991. However, the easing of the economy has undoubtedly given a boost to the Indian textile sector, which is currently one of the largest in the world. As a result, India has grown to be a significant player in the global cotton market. India is the world's third largest producer of cotton and the world's second largest manufacturer of cotton yarns and textiles. The Indian textile industry has several advantages, including a big and growing local and international market, a vast pool of skilled and inexpensive labour, a well-established sector, and attractive export prospects.
