Tamil Nadu is rich with Temples, that is almost 33,000 ancient temples scattered throughout the state. Most of the largest and ancient Hindu temples are part of this state. They are rich is architecture, sculptures and rich inscriptions. The Kingdoms of Chola, Chera and Pandyan brought shrines of different deities like Shiva, Murugan, Amman and Vishnu. The arts and sculptures from the famous Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple and Ranganathaswamy Temple are dated from the Sangam period. Pallava Kingdom architectural sculptures can be seen in Kailasanathar temple and the Shore temple. Rajendra Chola built temples like the Brihadeshvara Temple of Thanjavur and Brihadeshvara Temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the Airavateshvara Temple of Darasuram and the Sarabeswara Temple.
