System software is software designed to provide a platform for other software. Examples of system software include operating systems like macOS, Linux, Android and Microsoft Windows, computational science software, game engines, search engines, industrial automation, and software as a service application. In other words, they are general-purpose software primarily used to operate a system with computer hardware. It starts running when we power-on a computer system and stops when the computer is powered off. Every system has three basic types of software: application programs, device drivers, and operating systems.
