Surface Chemistry

Presentations | English

"Study related to chemical activities occuring in the surface of substances can be called as surface chemistry. The interactions of two surfaces like solid-liquid, solid-gas, solid-vaccum etc comes under this subject. Some of the phenomenons are adsorption, heterogeneous catalysis, corrosion and crystallization. Adsorption is accumulation of substances on surface due to intermolecular force. Catalysis is the process by the speed of a chemical reaction can be altered by addition of an agent which doesnot take part in the reaction. Heterogeneous catalysis occurs when the reactants and catalyts are in different phase. Colloids are heterogeneous even if they appear to homogeneous. Brownian movement is the motion of colloidal particles in a colloidal solution. The applications of adsorption are controlling humidity, froth floatation process, curing disease, separation of inert gases, production of high vaccum etc. Interesting information about surface chemistry can be understood from the presentation."
