Sundara Kaanda is the fifth book of the Ramayana, a Hindu epic. Valmiki, who was the first to scripturally record the Ramayana, penned the original Sundara Kanda in Sanskrit. The only chapter of the Ramayana in which the hero is not Rama but Hanuman is Sundara Kanda. Hanuman is a Hindu god and Rama's heavenly vanara (monkey) companion. Hanuman is a character in the Hindu epic Ramayana who is one of the main protagonists. He is a devout Rama devotee and one of the chiranjivis. Hanuman is also the son of Vayu, the wind god who, according to legend, had a key role in Hanuman's birth. Hanuman is mentioned in a number of different works, including the Mahabharata and the Puranas. Hanuman's experiences are depicted in the poem, and the language emphasises his selflessness, courage, and loyalty to Rama. Hanuman's mother Anjani gave him the name "Sundara," and Sage Valmiki chose it over others since the Sundara Kanda is about Hanuman's journey to Lanka.
ഹിന്ദു ഇതിഹാസമായ രാമായണത്തിലെ അഞ്ചാമത്തെ പുസ്തകമാണ് സുന്ദര കാണ്ഡ. രാമായണം ആദ്യമായി ഗ്രന്ഥപരമായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ വാൽമീകിയാണ് യഥാർത്ഥ സുന്ദരകാണ്ഡം സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ എഴുതിയത്. രാമായണത്തിലെ നായകൻ രാമനല്ല, ഹനുമാനാണ്. ഹനുമാൻ ഒരു ഹിന്ദു ദൈവവും രാമന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ വാനര (കുരങ്ങ്) കൂട്ടാളിയുമാണ്. ഹൈന്ദവ ഇതിഹാസമായ രാമായണത്തിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒരാളായ ഹനുമാൻ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രമാണ്. അദ്ദേഹം തികഞ്ഞ രാമഭക്തനും ചിരഞ്ജീവികളിൽ ഒരാളുമാണ്. ഐതിഹ്യമനുസരിച്ച്, ഹനുമാന്റെ ജനനത്തിൽ പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിച്ച വായുദേവനായ വായുവിന്റെ പുത്രൻ കൂടിയാണ് ഹനുമാൻ. മഹാഭാരതവും പുരാണങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി വ്യത്യസ്ത കൃതികളിൽ ഹനുമാനെ പരാമർശിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഹനുമാന്റെ അനുഭവങ്ങൾ കവിതയിൽ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, ഭാഷ അവന്റെ നിസ്വാർത്ഥതയും ധൈര്യവും രാമനോടുള്ള വിശ്വസ്തതയും ഊന്നിപ്പറയുന്നു. ഹനുമാന്റെ അമ്മ അഞ്ജനി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് "സുന്ദര" എന്ന പേര് നൽകി, കൂടാതെ സുന്ദരകാണ്ഡം ഹനുമാന്റെ ലങ്കയിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്രയെക്കുറിച്ചായതിനാൽ വാല്മീകി മഹർഷി അത് മറ്റുള്ളവരേക്കാൾ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
