The famous film playback singer and music director Sadasivan's song Sree vathsam maril charthiya was a super hit. In the background of his long experience in the field of drama, Ayyarur entered the film industry as a playback singer. This song was from the malayalam movie Chayam that was released in 1973. P N Menon directed this movie and the film stars Sudheer and Sheela. G Devarajan master composed the song's music and Vayalar Ramavarma wrote it's lyrics. In Malayalam film music, Devarajan was recognised for his usage of raagas. In his cinema song compositions, he is particularly known for his exceptional ability to mix the words of the lyrics with the emotion of the setting. Vayalar Ramavarma wrote the majority of his hit songs.
പ്രശസ്ത ചലച്ചിത്ര പിന്നണി ഗായകനും സംഗീത സംവിധായകനുമായ സദാശിവൻ ആലപിച്ച ശ്രീവത്സം മാറിൽ ചാർത്തിയ എന്ന ഗാനം സൂപ്പർ ഹിറ്റായിരുന്നു. നാടകരംഗത്തെ ദീർഘകാലത്തെ അനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തില് പിന്നണിഗായകനായാണ് അയിരൂര് ചലച്ചിത്രരംഗത്തേക്ക് കടന്നുവന്നത്. 1973ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ചായം എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ ഗാനമായിരുന്നു ഈ ഗാനം. പി എൻ മേനോൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ഈ സിനിമയിൽ സുധീറും ഷീലയും അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു. ജി ദേവരാജൻ മാസ്റ്ററാണ് ഗാനത്തിന് സംഗീതം നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്, വയലാർ രാമവർമ വരികൾ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നു. മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്ര സംഗീതത്തിൽ, രാഗങ്ങളുടെ പ്രയോഗത്തിലൂടെ ദേവരാജൻ അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സിനിമാ ഗാന രചനകളിൽ, വരികളിലെ വാക്കുകളെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിന്റെ വികാരവുമായി കലർത്താനുള്ള അസാധാരണമായ കഴിവിന് അദ്ദേഹം പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. വയലാർ രാമവർമയാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഹിറ്റ് ഗാനങ്ങളിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും എഴുതിയത്.
