Solar System

Presentations | English

Let's brush up on our knowledge of the Solar system. Universe refers to everything that exists, including galaxies and the space between them. A galaxy is a massive cluster of stars held together by gravity. The Milky Way is the name of the galaxy in which we live. The Milky Way is the galaxy that includes the Solar System. Our solar system is a collection of the Sun, eight planets and their moons, comets, asteroids, meteoroids, and dwarf planets revolving around the Sun. Our planetary system is named the "solar system" because our Sun is named Sol, after the Latin word for Sun, "Solis," and anything related to the Sun we call "solar." Our planetary system is located in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy. The eight planets revolving around the Sun in a sequence are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Our planetary system is the only one officially called the “solar system,” but astronomers have discovered more than 3,200 other stars with planets orbiting them in our galaxy.
