Social Responsibility of Business and Business Ethics

Presentations | English

Organizations, like people, bear responsibility for the broader influence that actions made today will have on future generations. Short-term profits at the price of long-term issues are unacceptable. Social responsibility is an essential component of corporate ethics. A responsible organisation examines and recognises the influence of its actions and activities on society and the environment, and acts in a way that positively contributes to society's long-term growth, health, and welfare. At its most basic level, ethics (including business ethics) is differentiating between what is right and what is wrong and then doing the right thing rather than the wrong thing. Unfortunately, ethical quandaries are rarely so straightforward, especially when it comes to corporate ethics. No, a corporation should not steal another's intellectual property, deceive a court about it, and, if found, blame others rather than accept responsibility; but, these are not the areas where organisations have problems. If a company does any of these things, it will do it with its eyes wide open.
