Social Networking Killing Social Life

Presentations | English

Did you know that there are 3.78 billion social media users worldwide? Social Media has completely changed the way we are connecting and communicating with people. Before social media, the means of reaching others were limited. Now we have a plethora of apps and platforms to express ourselves and form connections. On the upside, we have endless ways to connect with people. The downside is the process of communication has also changed, making it a struggle to have meaningful connections and quality conversations. Social Media often make us feel entertained and condition us to stay online most of the time thus stripping critical social skills. Most of the time that young people spend on social media makes them feel socially isolated. People who spend more than two hours on social media daily experience a decreased sense of social belonging, less fulfilling relationships and lower involvement with other people. High levels of online networking diminish the ability of one to socialize in a direct environment by reducing self-confidence. Thus, social networking kills the social and makes people addicted to it.
