Presentations | English

The quality of life was significantly improved in the last century mainly as regards the access to services. However, the heavy industrialization and the increasing population in the urban areas has been a big challenge for administrators, architects and urban planners. This paper provides a brief presentation of the evolution of the “smart city” term and the most representative characteristics of it. Besides this traditional definition I romantically define this as “Smart Cities are places where everything conspires to make your life better”. The goals are • Achieve a sustainable development. • Increase the quality of life of its citizens. • Improve the efficiency of the existing and new infrastructure. The scope of smart city’s is • Effects on the nearby settlements economically and socially connected. • Expansion to the whole region. • Regional and interregional networks. However the end target is to make a city smart. Different city got different challenges and hence the concept being smart is different for different cities.
