Sri Varaha Lakshminarasimha Devalayam is one of the most prominent and sacred Hindu Temples in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the Narasimha avatar. The temple is situated atop a hill in the village of Simhachalam in the Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh. In fact, the hill itself is called Simhachalam which means the hill of the lion. Historical evidences reveal that the temple is at least 1000 years old. However, according to Hindu mythology, the temple is much older than that. The deity here is called Simhachala Appanna. తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాలు అయినటువంటి ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్రాలలో ప్రముఖ హిందూ పుణ్యక్షేత్రాలలో శ్రీ వరాహ లక్ష్మీనరసింహస్వామి దేవస్థానము ఒకటి. ఈ ఆలయంలో నరసింహ స్వామిని సింహాద్రి అప్పన్న గా కొలుస్తారు. విశాఖపట్నం జిల్లా లో సింహాచలం గ్రామంలో తూర్పు కనుమల కొండపైన, సముద్రమాట్టానికి 300 మీటర్లు ఎత్తులో ఈ దేవాలయం ఉంది. సింహాచలం అంటే సింహం యొక్క పర్వతము అని అర్థం. ఈ దేవాలయం తాలుకూ చారిత్రిక ఆధారాలు మనకు పదకొండవ శతాబ్దం నుండి కనిపిస్తాయి. కాని పురాణాల ప్రకారం ఇది ఇంకా పురాతనమైనదై గా కనిపిస్తుంది. ఈ ఆలయానికి చెందిన స్థలపురాణాలు, చారిత్రిక అంశాలు, ఆలయ నిర్మాణ శైలి, పూజలు, ఆచారాలు మొదలగు విశేషాలు 2 భాగాల శ్రేణిలో ఇవ్వడం జరిగింది.
