Silent Night Holy Night is a popular Christian Carol song which was composed in the year 1818. This carol song has been recorded by many singers across many music genres across the globe. This song is still sung as a Christmas carol worldwide. This song was composed by Franz Xavier Gruber. The lyrics for this famous carol were penned by Joseph Mohr. It was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. In 1998 the Silent Night Museum in Salzburg commissioned a new English translation by Bettina Klein of Mohr’s German lyrics. This song has many versions which are widely accepted by the Carol community. It is still unknown what inspired the lyricist Joseph Mohr to write the lyrics, or what prompted him to create a new carol. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby or pastorale which is very soothing to hear. Several theatrical and television films depict how the song were written all of a sudden.
