Presentations | English

How do you perceive the idea of Secularism? Well, Secularism in simple words refers to an ideology that provides people with the right to follow any religion or not follow any. It permits the state with the responsibility to maintain neutrality in matters of religion. No state religion is the exact meaning of the word 'Secular' in the Indian Constitution. Secularism in India means the separation of religion from state. Secularism simply entails a normative commitment to neutrality on the part of the state toward religious affairs, necessitating that the state should neither favor, disfavor, promote, nor discourage any particular religious (or nonreligious) belief and viewpoint over another. secularism seeks to ensure freedom of religious belief practice and traditional values for all and respect to others' religious beliefs. Negative secularism refers to the complete separation of state and religion. Politics and other public spheres should be completely free from the influence of religion. In the personal sphere, the citizens have the right to practice a religion of their choosing but the state remains detached from facilitating any religion.
