Schizophrenia

Presentations | English

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. It is a chronic brain disorder. When schizophrenia is active, symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, trouble with thinking and lack of motivation. Schizophrenia is characterised by thoughts or experiences that seem out of touch with reality, disorganised speech or behaviour and decreased participation in daily activities. Difficulty with concentration and memory may also be present. Schizophrenia can usually be diagnosed if you have experienced one or more of the following symptoms most of the time for a month: delusions, hallucinations, hearing voices, incoherent speech, or negative symptoms, such as a flattening of emotions. The mainstay of treatment is antipsychotic medication, along with counseling, job training, and social rehabilitation.
