Since 1954, many Telugu writers have been honoured with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award. In this multi-part series, we provide you with the names of all these authors as well as their brief biographies and information about their writings. Covered in this section are Thummala Sitaramamurthy garu and Devarakonda Balagangadhar Tilak garu. Sitaramamurthy, also known as Abhinava Thikana, is specifically praised for his easy-to-read style. He was awarded the Sahithya Academy Award in 1969 for his book, Mahathmakatha. Tilak was awarded the award in 1970 for his Amrutham Kurisina Raatri, which was later translated into English as The Night the Nectar Rained.
