Kamba Ramayanam is considered to be one of the greatest literary works in Tamil literature, which was written by the Tamil poet Kambar. It is also called Raamavathaaram. The original version of Ramayanam, written by Valmiki Saint, was in the Sanskrit language of early period. Even though both the versions share similar stories based on the life of King Rama of the Ayodhya Kingdom, both have different viewpoints regarding cultural and spiritual concepts. The poet Kambar's other famous literary works include Erezhupathu, Thirukkai Vazhakkam, Kangai Puranam and Silaiyezhupathu. Ramayana is considered to be one among the two important epics of Hinduism. The other is Mahabharatha, which shares the story of Pandavaas and Kauravaas. Ramayana is one of the largest literary works in the world literature and is believed to have many adaptations from Buddhist, Sikh and Jain religions. This epic has an important influence over the culture of India.
