Radiation Hazards and Risk Control

Presentations | English

Radiation has the energy to affect the organelles in living cells and also damage the genetic material, that is DNA. The cells in human body are capable and efficient at repairing the damage. But in cases, if the damage is not repaired correctly, a cell may die or eventually become cancerous. The risks will be small for low level exposure but exposure to high level, mainly to ionising and non-ionising radiations can lead to acute effects such as burns and tissue damage. Always shield the radiation while working in such an environment.A personal protective equipment can be used to reduce exposure when working with ionising radiation. Inorder to protect the skin and eyes, respective shield are to be used. Identify the sources of ionising and non-ionising radiation in your workplace and the risks they pose. Once identified try to control the risks they can cause. Protection can control exposure to a certain limit. Read to know more about this topic.
