Provocative Material

Presentations | English

If something is provocative, it provokes a reaction. A provocative book might get people talking about a argument idea. A provocative statement, such as "I hate babies" will get another kind of reaction. Provocation is defined as something that gets someone to act, especially out of irritation. A mosquito’s buzzing pushing someone to slap it is an example of provocation. Some people tend to post provocative material on social media based on some mere disagreements. Provocations, by nature, tend to provoke thoughts, ideas and actions. For instance, a provocation is an experience set up in response to a child’s interests and ideas. This could be through a photo, picture or a book or even through questions or an event that encourages a child to make an action. In law, provocation is when a person is considered to have committed a criminal act partly because of a preceding set of events that might cause a reasonable person to lose self-control. It rarely serves as a legal defence, meaning it does not stop the defendant from being guilty of the crime.
