Prosocial Behavior

Presentations | English

Prosocial behavior describes the feeling of empathy or concern for others. These are behaviors meant to help other people. Such actions include helping, sharing, co-operating and comforting people. This can be confused with the concept of altruism, but both are distinct concepts. Altruism is motivating others to help themselves rather than to benefit oneself. There are a number of reasons for people engaging in this behavior, like personal interest, reciprocal behavior, socialization and evolutionary influences. For example, when one donates money to charity they are not expecting anything in return. This can be an instance of prosocial behavior. Helping others can always make people feel better and have a positive vibe. Developing this can foster positive traits beneficial for children as well as society. Also, it can encourage eliminating undesirable social behavior. View the presentation to understand more about the topic.
