Principles of Fire

Presentations | English

Fire can be a serious hazard in manufacturing industries, can be greatest loss of life and damage occurring generally by toxic release or explosion. It happens when a source of heat comes in contact with a combustible material in oxygen presence. Three conditions are mainly essential for fire occurrence, that is fuel, oxygen and heat. It is represented in a fire triangle and absence of one among these can cause fire get extinguished. A fuel is a combustible material, which gets consumed in combustion process. Examples of fuels can be paper, cardboard, wood, soft furnishings, petrol, diesel, butane, acetylene etc. Oxygen is consumed in combustion and is chemically combined with the fuel. Source of ignition or heat is necessary for fire and once combustion starts there is generation of heat to continue burning. Fire triangle is useful mainly for fire prevention and fire fighting. Basically fire is classified into different classes, Class A fire from ordinary combustible materials like paper, cloth, wood etc. Class B is fire from flammable and combustible liquids. Class C is fire from energized electrical equipment and Class D is fire due to combustible metals like magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium and potassium. More information on this topic can be understood from the presentation.
