Posthumanism - Cyborgs

Presentations | English

In recent years, cyborgs and artificial intelligence have become popular subjects. The term "posthuman" comes from the realms of science fiction, futurology, contemporary art, and, philosophy and refers to a person or entity that exists in a state other than that of a human. The term "cyborg" is derived from "cybernetic organism," which is a hybrid of biological and technological features. It was originally intended to represent any mixed-type system, but it is now more commonly used to characterise entities in which biology and technology are inextricably linked. Haraway's cyborg is a satirical spin on standard cyborg conceptions, inverting the traditional narrative of the cyborg whose presence calls into question the distinction between humans and robots. Haraway's cyborg is the "beta" version of the posthuman as it was the catalyst for critical theory to address the issue.
