Yesudas sang the beautiful love song 'Poovalla Poonthaliralla Manathe Mazhavillalla' from the movie 'Kattupothu' which was not lucky enough to see the light. The music was composed by Jerry Amaldev with lyrics by P Bhaskaran. This is a song that proves how to create good melodies by eliminating the violin completely. It's a wonder how the song in a film that did not go down was so well received. The song gave the impression that the song could reach the hearts of the people without the support of visuals. The song 'Poovalla Poonthaliralla' was kept close to the Malayalee mind beyond all technicalities by P. Jerry has no doubt that Bhaskaran's simple and beautiful work. The song was about a love affair between Shankar and actress Aruna. The song was shot against the backdrop of nature in Peermede. Although the film was not released the songs of the Kattupothu benefited Jerry Amaldev; especially 'Poovalla poonthaliralla'.
യേശുദാസ് പാടിയ ''പൂവല്ല പൂന്തളിരല്ല മാനത്തെ മഴവില്ലല്ല'' എന്ന സുന്ദര പ്രണയഗാനം വെളിച്ചം കാണാൻ ഭാഗ്യമുണ്ടാകാതെ പോയ 'കാട്ടുപോത്ത്' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലേതാണ്. പി ഭാസ്കരൻ്റെ വരികൾക്ക് ജെറി അമൽദേവ് ആണ് സംഗീതം നൽകിയത്. വയലിൻ പൂർണമായി ഒഴിവാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് എങ്ങനെ നല്ല മെലഡികൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കാം എന്ന് തെളിയിച്ച ഗാനമാണിത്. ഇറങ്ങാതെ പോയ ഒരു പടത്തിലെ പാട്ട് എങ്ങനെ ഇത്രയും സ്വീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു എന്നത് ഒരു അത്ഭുതം തന്നെയാണ്. ദൃശ്യങ്ങളുടെ പിന്തുണ ഇല്ലാതെയും പാട്ട് ജനഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഇടം നേടാം എന്ന തിരിച്ചറിവ് ഈ ഗാനം നൽകി. ''പൂവല്ല പൂന്തളിരല്ല'' എന്ന പാട്ടിനെ എല്ലാ സാങ്കേതികത്തികവിനും അപ്പുറത്ത് മലയാളിമനസ്സിനോട് ചേർത്തുനിർത്തിയത് പി. ഭാസ്കരന്റെ ലളിത സുന്ദരമായ രചനതന്നെ എന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ സംശയമില്ല ജെറിയ്ക്ക്. ശങ്കറും അരുണ എന്ന നടിയും ചേർന്നുള്ള പ്രേമരംഗമായിരുന്നു ഗാനത്തിൽ. പീരുമേട്ടിൽ പ്രകൃതിയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണ് ഗാനം ഷൂട്ട്ചെയ്തത്. പടം വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടില്ലെങ്കിലും കാട്ടുപോത്തിലെ പാട്ടുകൾ ജെറിക്ക് ഗുണംചെയ്തു; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് 'പൂവല്ല പൂന്തളിരല്ല'.
