Plasmids

Presentations | English

"Plasmids are small double stranded DNA molecules that are distinct or physically separate from a chromosomal DNA; thereby making them extrachromosomal. They are capable of replicating themselves without foreign help. They are most naturally found in bacterial cells. The genes they carry, provides the bacteria with genetic advantages and advances, such as antibiotic resistance. Plasmids have a broad range of different lengths, starting from around a thousand base pairs to several hundred thousand DNA base pairs. Upon the cell’s replication and division, the plasmid within the cells such that each and every distinct daughter cell has a copy of each of the plasmids. In science, scientists have also used plasmids to manipulate and work on genes. Let us not spare another second, watch the slide NOW!"
