Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines or crude drugs produced from natural sources such as plants, microbes, and animals. The word ‘Pharmacognosy’ is derived from the Greek Pharmakon, ‘a drug’ and gignosco, ‘to acquire knowledge’ Pharmacognosy has been the subject of great development during the twentieth century. Pharmacognosy embraces knowledge of the history, distribution, cultivation, collection, selection, preparation, commerce, identification, evaluation, preservation, and use of drugs . In addition to economic substances affecting the health of man and other animals. As a part of the pharmaceutical curriculum, Pharmacognosy plays an important role as liaison agent between pharmacology and pharmaceutical chemistry and between pharmacy and pharmacy administration. Pharmacognosy has broad scope in field of Pharmacy. The Presentation will throw further light into this stream of study.
