Biotechnological methods have become an important tool in pharmaceutical drug research and development. Today approximately 15 % of drug revenues are derived from biopharmaceuticals. Pharmaceutical biotechnology is a relatively new and growing field in which the principles of biotechnology are applied to the development of drugs. It is a branch of science that involves the use of recombinant DNA for the effective manufacture of some drugs or medicine. It is a combination of pharmaceutical science and biotechnology. The aim of pharmaceutical biotechnology is to design, produce drugs that are adapted to each persons genetic make up which can give the maximum therapeutic effect. Biotechnology plays an important role in pharmaceutical science especially in the pharmaceutical industries by creation of genetically modified organisms that can be used in industrial production. It covers all technologies required for the production, manufacturing and registration of biological drugs.
