Pazhassi Raja is a 1964 Malayalam biographical film, directed and produced by Kunchako. It is written by well known playwright Thikkodiyan and is based on the life of warrior king Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. It stars Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair in the title role, with Prem Nazir, Sathyan, Satyapal, S. P. Pillai, Rajashree and Pankajavalli in other important roles. India’s first and one of the foremost freedom fighter Pazhassi Raja was known as Kerala Varma. He is popularly known as Kerala Simham (Lion of Kerala) on account of his martial exploits.
1964-ൽ കുഞ്ചാക്കോ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത് നിർമ്മിച്ച ഒരു മലയാളം ജീവചരിത്ര ചിത്രമാണ് പഴശ്ശി രാജ. കേരള വർമ്മ പഴശ്ശിരാജയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി പ്രശസ്ത നാടകകൃത്ത് തിക്കോടിയനാണ് ഇത് എഴുതിയത്. കൊട്ടാരക്കര ശ്രീധരൻ നായർ ടൈറ്റിൽ റോളിൽ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു, പ്രേം നസീർ, സത്യൻ, സത്യപാൽ, എസ് പി പിള്ള, രാജശ്രീ, പങ്കജവല്ലി എന്നിവർ മറ്റ് പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെയും മുൻനിര സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ സമര സേനാനിയും ആയ പഴശ്ശിരാജ കേരള വർമ്മ എന്നാണ് അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. ആയോധന വീര്യം കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം കേരള സിംഹം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
